GoldenPalace Casino is well-known for their original and, at times, controversial marketing methods. They’ve received some criticism in the past over buying the naming rights of a newborn baby and for gate-crashing sporting events (a guy wearing a GoldenPalace.com T-shirt stormed the stage of the Turin Olympic Closing Ceremony and grabbed the microphone off the Italian Olympic Chairman). Streakers emblazoned with GoldenPalace on their bodies have also be spotted at Wimbledon and the World Swimming Championships. They sponsored a ‘Last-Man-Sitting’ poker tournament in a bullring at Angola Prison, where players were seated in the middle of a rodeo bullring and the last man to run
for his life won $1000!
However, not all of their marketing is controversial. They endeavour to buy items of historical, religious or popular significance. They have purchased the VW Golf previously owned by the current Pope, and have been known to purchase a food item (a grilled cheese sandwich) that bears a striking resemblance to the Virgin Mary. Britney Spears’ positive Pregnancy Test was also purchased, along with Star Trek’s William Shatner’s Kidney Stone! Shatner donated the proceeds to charity and displayed his sharp humor skills by commenting, “I retain visiting rights.”
Their latest purchase is Warren Buffet’s DQ Ukulele. It was purchased on Ebay for $11,211 and was specially made for Buffet by Dairy Queen. Warren Buffet is widely regarded as the most successful investor in stock market history and one of the richest men in the world.
Most importantly, the proceeds from the auction went to the Omaha Children’s Hospital, which is part of the Children’s Miracle Network which is dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children through raising funds for children’s hospitals.
GoldenPalace CEO Richard Rowe stated, “This was a great opportunity to help out a worthy charity and get some marketing exposure at the same time. Over the years we have developed a knack for recognizing a great advertising investment when we see it. Mr. Buffett is an American icon, and we are honored to own this item as well as contribute to the Children’s Miracle Network.”
Whether you approve of GoldenPalace’s original marketing strategies or not, the fact is they have raised over $1,000,000 for various charities worldwide in a few short years. While we could probably do without the gate-crashing of Olympic Games, I’m not sure you’ll find too many people complaining about the streakers!
